On Saturday, March 23, nearly 150 fifth-graders from across the Delaware Valley competed in the sixteenth annual Build A House…Build A Dream contest for kids presented by Fox & Roach/Trident Charities and Habitat for Humanity of Chester County. This was a record number of attendees for the annual fundraising event and a wonderful turnout from the community. In this competition, students worked individually or in pairs to build their own three-dimensional, model dream home. Contestants then brought their models for display and judging at Church Farm School on March 23. Judges and spectators remarked at the extraordinary level of detail and ingenuity seen in this year’s houses, which included a house built with books, houses built in the trees, and houses built with green technology!
Congratulations to our winners! 1st place: Giana and Sofie from Swarthmore Rutledge Elementary 2nd place: Sophia and Ceri from Garnet Valley Elementary 3rd place: Lila from Swarthmore Rutledge Elementary
The goal of Build A House…Build A Dream is to create awareness of the need for affordable housing throughout the Delaware Valley. The contest also raised over $20,000 to benefit Habitat home building programs for low-income families in Chester County. Since 1989, Habitat for Humanity of Chester County has served 151 hard-working families and continues to build 2-6 houses a year.
