In 2026, Habitat for Humanity International marks 50 years of expanding access to safe housing that is affordable and strengthening communities worldwide. At Habitat for Humanity of Chester County (Habitat ChesCo), this milestone invites reflection on past achievements and a clear, intentional focus on the opportunities ahead.
Our vision is clear, and we’re just getting started. When we focus on possibility and work together, we open the door to deeper impact, stronger neighborhoods, and brighter futures for families across Chester County.
Turning Vision Into Action

A new year is the perfect time to turn resolutions into meaningful steps. Whether your goal is volunteering, learning a new skill, supporting housing justice, or pursuing homeownership, there is a role for everyone. Habitat ChesCo offers numerous opportunities for involvement, including building and repairing homes, volunteering on-site, supporting our ReStores, partnering with businesses or organizations, and advocating for policies that expand housing access.
As we celebrate the International Year of Volunteers, we honor the people who make opportunity possible. Every hour given, every nail hammered, and every gift shared opens a door for families, neighborhoods, and our community as a whole.
Everyone Belongs Here
Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of a beloved community, Habitat ChesCo is rooted in dignity, equity, and inclusion. Our doors are open to people of all backgrounds, experiences, and skill levels.
No construction experience is required to volunteer, and no specific background is needed to support housing justice. Come as you are, bring what you have, and join us in building a community where every individual and family can thrive.
The Doors We’re Opening in 2026
As we look ahead, Habitat ChesCo is focused on opening doors that address local housing needs and create lasting community impact.

Opening the Door to Neighborhood Partnerships: Strong partnerships are essential to long-term success. By working alongside municipalities, nonprofits, businesses, faith communities, and local organizations, Habitat ChesCo strengthens its ability to serve families and revitalize neighborhoods.
Homeownership drives community investment: Homeowners are more likely to be involved in their neighborhoods and contribute to local civic life.1
Opening the Door to More Home Repairs: Safe housing is not limited to new construction; it also encompasses existing housing. Preserving existing homes is equally critical. Through home repair programs, Habitat ChesCo helps homeowners address critical needs, maintain safe living conditions, and remain in their homes.
Stable housing changes lives: Children in stable homes are 116% more likely to graduate from college than children in unstable housing situations.2
Opening the Door to New Homeownership Opportunities: Homeownership provides stability, supports financial well-being, and creates opportunities for future generations. However, access to homeownership remains unequal. Habitat ChesCo works to reduce barriers by offering homeownership opportunities paired with education and long-term support.
The homeownership gap persists: The Black homeownership rate in the U.S. is 44.0%, compared to 73.7% for white households.3
A Door Opened: Carla’s Story

Carla recently reached a significant milestone: she has paid off her mortgage and now officially owns her home. This achievement reflects years of commitment, partnership, and perseverance.
For Carla, homeownership represents more than a financial accomplishment. It offers stability, independence, and the confidence that comes with knowing she has a secure place to call home. Her story illustrates the lasting impact of homeownership and the role community support plays in making it possible.
Opening the Door to Volunteer Pathways: Volunteers are at the heart of Habitat’s mission. From construction and repair projects to ReStores, events, and advocacy efforts, volunteers contribute their time and skills to support families and neighborhoods.
Volunteering strengthens communities: Over 77 million Americans volunteer annually, contributing to stronger social bonds and healthier communities.4
Opening the Door to Opportunity for Everyone: Access to safe housing contributes to more resilient and connected communities.
Equity matters: Neighborhoods with greater racial and economic diversity have stronger social cohesion and are more resilient during economic downturns.5
How You Can Help Open Doors in Chester County
As Habitat for Humanity marks 50 years of impact, local action remains essential to advancing the mission.

Make a one-time donation or join the Square Foot Club: Monthly giving through Habitat ChesCo’s Square Foot Club provides sustained support for housing efforts. These contributions help lay the foundation for homes that offer stability and opportunity:

$80/month: A front door opening to new beginnings
$200/month: A bedroom where a child can learn and grow
$400/month: A living room where families build memories
Volunteer your time: Volunteers of all skill levels are needed on construction sites, repair projects, ReStores, and special initiatives. Each contribution of time strengthens Habitat’s impact.
Shop or donate to our ReStores: Purchases and donations at Habitat ChesCo ReStores support homeownership while promoting reuse and sustainability.
Partner with us: Businesses, faith groups, schools, and community organizations can support Habitat’s mission through sponsorships, collaborative projects, and community engagement.
Advocate for housing solutions: By supporting policies that expand access to stable housing, advocates help address systemic barriers and promote long-term change.
The Next 50 Years Begin Now
Fifty years of impact is a meaningful milestone, but the work is far from complete. The need for safe housing that is affordable remains, and the future of Habitat’s mission depends on continued collaboration and community commitment.
As Habitat ChesCo looks to 2026 and beyond, we invite you to help shape the future. Together, through service, partnership, and shared purpose, we can continue opening doors to stability, opportunity, and hope.
